If you arrive in Palenque by bus, which is most likely, you exit the bus station and find yourself on Juarez, which runs east west. The main plaza is to the right [east]. Go this way to find a hotel if you are planning on staying in Paleqnue. If you wish to stay near the ruins on the "strip" then you exit the bus station and either hop in a taxi, many are waiting, and ask to go to your destination [see Where to Stay] which will cost $30 pesos during the day and $40-$50 pesos at night. The alternative is to exit the station and walk across the street. There you wait for a mini-van with a small sign in the window that says "RUNAS". This "collectevo" will take you all the way to Palenque ruins and right by all the hotels/campsites on the strip. The cost of a ride is $7 pesos. If you are driving, enter Palenque and drive east on Juarez to highway 199 but take the fork in the road to Palenque ruins [there are signs]. The hotels and campsites are around 5 km from Palenque. |
