Getting to Yaxchilan presents difficulties to the traveler not wishing to take a tour because of its distance fro anything. It is 178 km from Palenque which means at least a 4 hour one-way journey. It is best to plan on staying near Yaxchilan in Frontera Corozal for the night and visit the ruins in the morning after arriving.

To drive there you take highway 199 located at the east end of Palenque and follow the signs.
