Ball Court
You enter the site by climbing some steps to a ball court on the edge of the Grand Plaza. The ball court was inaugurated in around 780 under the rule of the female ruler Smoking Mirror. A decapitation alter stands beside the court.

Temple of Cosmic War
At the south end of the Grand Plaza sits the Temple of Cosmic War with five altars in front of it.

Sarcophagus of Zots-Choj
To the north rises a hillside terraced into platforms. At the right end of the steps from the first to second platform is the entrance to a labyrinth of passages. The sarcophagus of Zots-Choj lies in the entrance. Zots-Choj was a ruler during the Snake Skull-Jaguar Claw period in 842 AD.

Palace of Grecas and War
Higher up on the right hand side is the Palace of Grecas and War. Grecas are a band of geometric decorations; in this case a zigzag X shape in the stone, which may be, steps. To the right of the X/steps is a series of passageways, stairs and chambers believed to be Tonina's administrative center.

Mural of the Four Eras
Higher up toward the right side of the building is the Mural of the Four Eras believed to have been created sometime between 790 and 840 AD. This stucco relief of four panels represents the four suns [eras] of human history according to Mayan belief.

Near the middle of the same level, a short ladder descends to a tomb with a sarcophagus.

Thirty-Meter Tomb
Towards the end of the same platform stone steps descend into a small opening.

Temple of Water and Temple of the Earth Monster
Above the platform is the acropolis where it is believed that Tonina's rulers lived and executed their unconditional powers. There are two levels with two temples on each level. There is a left side known as the Temple of Water and a right side known as the Temple of the Earth Monster.

Temple of the Smoking Mirror
The level at the top of the structure has two temples behind and two temples in front. The taller temple on the east side is 80m above the Grand Plaza.

Temple of War
In the smaller temple on this level a number of stucco prisoners can be seen.
