We have divided this section into 5 territories: North, East, West, South and Central. Most major cities have been included. These are cities that are generally traveled to. Also a number of villages have been included however the list is vastly incomplete. The majority of people enter Chiapas via the north end and arrive in Palenque first. Thus you would work your way south. If you fly in you start your tour from Tuxtla Guitierrez and have the opportunity to travel in any direction or in a circle. You can also fly into Tapachula and travel north eventually ending up in Cancun or Mexico City.

The Orchid State has an overall area of 75,500 km2 [29,00-sq. mi.] and is about the size of New Brunswick or South Carolina. It shares the Usumacinta River as a natural boundary with Guatemala on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west with more than 200km of untamed coastline.
The highlands exceed 3,000m [9,840 ft] above sea level and its vegetation is the most exuberant in Mexico. The descendents of outstanding civilizations who built magnificent cities like Palenque and Yaxchilan are still living in this land. The testimonies of this culture can still be seen surrounded by natural beauty, impressive tropical rain forests and multicolored lakes. Chiapas keeps its past, customs and traditions of its inhabitants alive. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
